In March of 2015, the Samsung Galaxy S6 range, including the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, was unveiled to the public. As well as being the successor to the Galaxy S5, the S6 Edge sported a screen that wrapped along the side of the device. This was the first Galaxy mobile to adopt the Edge screen, and came after the Galaxy Note Edge, which was the first Galaxy boast the curved screen technology. The Galaxy S6 line was released in April of 2015 in 20 countries worldwide. Following the trend of upscaling smartphones, in August of 2015, Samsung released the Galaxy S6 Edge+. This model was an enlarged version the S6 which came with a 5.7-inch screen also a bigger 3000mAh battery.
The Galaxy Edge S6 definitely saw a design upgrade from the pervious Galaxy models. As well as the Edge screen the construction of the S6 was revamped. The plastic body from previous models had been discarded, in exchange for an all meatal unibody. The new S6 also introduced many new updates and features of both software and hardware. The rear facing camera got an enhancement to 16 mega-pixels as well as now being able to record at 2160p at 30 frames per second. This meant that the camera on the S6 was easily one of the best on the smartphone market. Other hardware additions included the ability to charge the phone wirelessly, support for mobile payments platforms and an improved fingerprint scanner.
Within the first 6 months of sales, the Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 exceeded the amount of Galaxy S5 units sold within a similar timeline. However, this still did not break the Galaxy S4’s sales record of telling over ten million units in this time frame. As well as an upgraded user interface, the S6 sported a Quad HD Super Amoled 2560x1440 pixel resolution display which was also 518 pixels per inch. Internally, It came with a new in-house system-on-a-chip that utilized an Octa-core 64-bit processor. The Galaxy S6 Edge came in 4 colour variants, black, white, silver, and green.
