The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S7 was released as the successor to the Galaxy S5. It was announced during Samsung’s press conference at the Mobile World Congress in February 2016. The phone saw many upgrades from the previous model, including a new stunning display. Upon first look, the S7’s display may have looked very similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S6; it still had a 5.1-inch screen, resolution of 2560x1440 and a sharp 577ppi pixel density. However, scientific analysis showed performance improvements over its predecessor. The screen itself was 24% brighter and had improved contrast ratios. This meant that colours looked more natural and the whites looked brighter. Arguably for it’s time, the Samsung Galaxy S7 32GB had the best display on the smartphone market. That’s even when compared to Apple’s iPhone 6.

The Galaxy S7 also saw a good handful of subtle design upgrades, improving aesthetics as well as its utility. The earpiece grille also became colour coded which added to this seamless aesthetic. As seemed to be a trend in smartphones of the time, the corners of the Galaxy S7 became more rounded and the bezel was reduced fractionally. This made the S7 sit comfortably in the user’s hand.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 came in both black, gold, white, pink, blue and silver finishes. However, some colours were exclusive to certain markets. A special Olympic edition of Galaxy S7 Edge was also given to all Olympic athletes competing in the 2016 summer Olympics. Yet the 31 mobiles given to the North Korean competitors were confiscated by their government. Maybe North Korea couldn’t resist Zappers incredible offers...
